DENFAIR #2 – the independents

The remarkable thing about DENFAIR is the platform it creates for independent designers to showcase their work. So in our second piece on Australia’s most anticipated design event – practicemakes_ continues our tour with a glimpse into those that should be congratulated for investing in themselves.

If you read our interview with Rhys Cooper a few months ago you’d understand why we are thrilled for Mr Cooper, making an entry into the Australian furniture and lighting world with his first solo collection. For us here @practicemakes_ this is what it is all about and Rhy’s commitment to making it happen is simply superb and inspiring.

Looking onto some pretty significant stands in the centre of this year’s DENFAIR, Glen Anderson’s large format images of the weather transported viewers to another place.

The Bear’s of the porcelain know a thing or two about keeping it hot and their new geometric tiles take their finely-honed skills in a new direction.

Having just returned from Milan and fresh on the heels of a Wallpaper* cover, Ross Gardam’s dedication to his craft is unquestionable. Showing his Polar desk and wall light in all their glory we take our brim off to Melbourne’s local legend of lighting design.

Something different yet close to home, DesignByThem launched a collection of new-beauties including their extendable lounge series which unpacks to a workplace solution.

Next in our DENFAIR wrap-up series we look at five Australian designers working with local and international brands.
